I've been running a referral program for my handyman side hustle, offering $50 off the next job for anyone who sends me a client, but out here in Arizona the heat's killing repeat business and folks just ghost after one fix. Last month I only got two referrals from the dozen jobs I did, mostly drywall patches and deck repairs using my DeWalt cordless kit. Saw a post on r/handyman where someone was bragging about their system, but mine feels like a waste. Someone in Handyman Nation group mentioned tying it to gift cards instead of discounts, worth trying? Frustrated as hell, been at this 8 years and need to tweak it before the slow season hits. Anyone got a pricing strategy that works with referrals?

Switch to a tiered system where the referrer gets cash after three jobs booked, keeps them invested longer.

Yeah, I do $25 per referral but only pay out after the new client pays in full. Cuts down on flakes.

Try bundling the referral discount with a free gutter cleaning add-on, upsells the value.

Gutter work? In AZ? Might not fly, but for general handyman yeah, pair it with something seasonal.

Man, referrals suck when clients think handyman means cheap labor, always haggling.

Same, had a guy refer his buddy who wanted a full fence repair for pocket change.

Insurance companies are ruining referrals, they push their approved lists and screw independents.

Track your referral ROI in a simple spreadsheet, cut what doesn't work like the $50 discount.

Jobber's referral tracking is gold, but setup took me a weekend.

Tried Housecall Pro instead, their templates work better for handyman quotes.

Set a minimum job value for referrals, like $300 min, weeds out the cheapos.

How do you handle repeat referrers who start demanding bigger discounts?

Haha, nothing like a referral who shows up with their own half-assed tools.

Don't tie referrals to discounts at all, offer them a free tool tune-up service.
