Been running my handyman gig for 8 years now, fixing everything from leaky faucets to mounting those heavy Milwaukee packsaws on garage walls. Set up a Google Business Profile last year thinking it'd bring in local leads for small jobs like deck repairs and drywall patches. All it did was flood me with spam calls from Angi and Thumbtack reps trying to upsell their crap, and the few real inquiries were lowballers quoting half what I charge for a basic fence gate install. Saw a thread on r/handyman where guys were saying the same, and someone in Handyman Nation group posted about getting shadowbanned for posting too many before-and-after pics of caulking jobs. IMO, it's more hassle than it's worth unless you're doing big remodels, not the odd handyman fix around the house. Stick to yard signs and word-of-mouth, that's what keeps my schedule full with repeat clients needing touch-ups on their trim work. Anyone else ditch Google for something better?

Switch to Nextdoor for local handyman stuff, it's way better for quick fixes like shelf installs without the corporate BS.

Nextdoor sucks too, half the posts are from Karens complaining about your quote for hanging their damn curtains. Google at least shows up in searches when someone's googling 'handyman near me' for a real job like patching a roof leak. But yeah, the spam is infuriating, everyone's getting screwed by these lead gen vampires.
