Just started doing handyman gigs a month ago and today I quoted a basic shelf install using my DeWalt 20V drill for $150 flat rate. Customer wanted it mounted on a garage wall but I drilled into what I thought was a solid stud and the whole damn thing came crashing down during the test hang, splintering their old toolbox below. Now they're pissed and I'm out $50 in materials, plus gotta redo it for free to make it right. Saw a similar screw-up on r/handyman last week but didn't think it'd happen to me.

that deWalt 20v's a beast, but i've been nailing stud mounts with it for 10 years straight and never dropped a shelf once - keeps my rep spotless.

homeowners are the worst, always expecting perfection on the cheap without even telling you about the crap behind their walls. i had a similar gig last month where the wall was hollow as hell and the shelf collapsed, costing me two hours to fix for nada. these newbies rushing in without a stud finder are making us all look bad, and the customers lump us together like we're all amateurs. damn frustrating when one botched job tanks your rep for a whole neighborhood. gotta watch out for those angry reviews that spread like wildfire.

next time knock on the wall first or use a $20 stud finder to make sure you're drilling into a real stud, saves you the headache.

homeowners always expect perfection for peanuts but lose their shit over one screw-up, like theyve never botched a DIY before. had a guy threaten to sue me over a $200 install gone wrong cause he couldnt read the damn instructions.

i've installed over 500 deWalt shelves without a single lawsuit, and i never touch a job under $500 cause cheapskates like that guy are always the problem. keeps my business drama-free and profits steady.

Grab a StudBuddy attachment for that DeWalt next time, it grips the drill better and gives you more torque control without slipping.
