Man, keeping books for my handyman gigs is a total crap-show. I've got receipts for everything from DeWalt drill bits to lumber runs at Home Depot, but trying to categorize it all in QuickBooks is killing me. Last month I spent three evenings just reconciling expense reports for minor repairs like fixing leaky faucets and patching drywall. Does anyone use a better system for separating tool maintenance from material costs? Saw a thread on r/handyman where someone mentioned a simple spreadsheet template that actually works. Honestly, if I don't get this sorted, I'll be staring at my screen all weekend instead of out on jobs. Any vets got tips for staying organized without hiring a full-time bookkeeper?

set up a simple google sheets template with columns for tool maintenance, materials, and job type, then link it to quickbooks monthly so you ain't spendin evenings on it anymore.

switched to a custom google sheets setup for my handyman side and now i'm saving 10 hours a month on categorizing that crap. it's dead simple: one tab for tools like drill bits, another for materials, and boom, quickbooks feeds right in without the headaches.

dude, same shit here with quickbooks turning every receipt into a damn puzzle. i've wasted whole weekends just trying to split tool crap from materials, it's exhausting.

switch to gnucash, it's free and way simpler for solo guys like us than quickbooks' endless categories. i set up one tab for tools, another for materials, and it auto-sorts receipts scanned from my phone in under 10 minutes a week. been using that spreadsheet from the r/handyman post too, tweaked it to track dfu estimates on plumbing odds and ends. saves me from those weekend screen stares every time.

quickbooks is a damn thief with all those subscription hikes and still sucks at categorizing handyman crap, no wonder we're all drowning in receipts instead of getting paid.

quickbooks is a damn nightmare for us handymen, i wasted two full days last week categorizing drill bits and faucet washers just to figure out i was short $200 on materials.

Same here, the government's gonna audit us all one day for not tracking every damn screw.

Don't mix personal and business accounts, it'll bite you later. Use separate credit cards for jobs only.

Tried that, but my bank's fees are ridiculous now. Switched to a business checking and it's worse. Ended up owing extra on taxes last year because I couldn't sort the mess fast enough.
