Had a client call me out for a quick fix on their sagging deck railing, quoted $450 using Simpson Strong-Tie brackets to beef it up proper. Guy starts arguing he wants it done cheaper with just some scrap 2x4s, no way I'm risking that liability. Walked away feeling good about not compromising, even if it meant losing the gig. Watched this Essential Craftsman video last week on why shortcuts kill, reinforced my stance.

hell yeah, i turned down a similar gig last month with some cheapo brackets and walked with my head high. feels damn good knowing i wont be the one fixing their lawsuit later. simpson strong-tie all the way, keeps the karma clean.

been there with cheapskates pushing for scrap wood fixes, sucks losing the job but better than a lawsuit. dodged a bullet for sure, man.

good call walking away, i saw a deck railing give out last year from cheap 2x4s and it damn near killed a kid... shortcuts like that aint worth the lawsuit.

hell yeah, walking away from cheapskates like that is the only way to sleep at night, but tbh sometimes i wish id just slap on those 2x4s and pocket the cash anyway. liability my ass when bills are piling up.

man, i hate when these cheap bastards try to lowball us into cutting corners, had one last week who wanted me to use his busted lumber and nearly lost it on him. should've just walked like you did, but i caved and now the job's a headache.
