Had a client call me out for a quick fix on their sagging deck railing, quoted $450 using Simpson Strong-Tie brackets to beef it up proper. Guy starts arguing he wants it done cheaper with just some scrap 2x4s, no way I'm risking that liability. Walked away feeling good about not compromising, even if it meant losing the gig. Watched this Essential Craftsman video last week on why shortcuts kill, reinforced my stance.

hell yeah, i turned down a similar gig last month with some cheapo brackets and walked with my head high. feels damn good knowing i wont be the one fixing their lawsuit later. simpson strong-tie all the way, keeps the karma clean.

been there with cheapskates pushing for scrap wood fixes, sucks losing the job but better than a lawsuit. dodged a bullet for sure, man.
