I've been doing handyman work for 10 years now, mostly fixing up old houses in Pennsylvania where everything's gotta be up to code or they shut you down. Last week I got called out to install some new shelving in a garage and the homeowner insisted on a permit because the inspector in our county is a real stickler. I quoted him $450 for the job including materials like Simpson Strong-Tie brackets, but now they're dragging their feet on approval and I'm stuck waiting. It's frustrating as hell when a simple 2-hour gig turns into a week-long paperwork nightmare. Anyone else deal with this crap? Feels like I'm running a bureaucracy service half the time. Watched a video on that Essential Craftsman channel about when to pull permits, and even he said for minor stuff it's overkill, but here in PA you never know.

those damn PA inspectors are the WORST, turning a quick $450 shelving job into a total BS circus while we sit on our asses waiting for their rubber stamp.

inspectors in this state are total BS, turning a quick shelving job into a permit circus just to justify their paycheck. screw the homeowners who push for it too, they end up paying more and getting nothing faster.

man, same crap here in pa, inspectors turn a quick shelf job into a full audit every damn time. had one last month nitpick my lag screws like i was building a skyscraper, wasted two days on resubmits. feels like we're the ones jumping through hoops just to get paid.

inspectors are the WORST, always nitpicking over BS like bracket spacing to justify their jobs while were stuck waiting weeks. in pennsylvania its a total crapshoot, one county lets you slide the next hits you with fines that eat your whole profit.

in pa, i always check the township website first for shelving exemptions, saved me from pulling a permit on a similar garage job last month.

yeah, permits turn a quick shelving gig into waiting for the inspector to decide if your brackets offend the building gods lol.

man, permits for shelving? thats some next level BS right there, been waiting two weeks on a simple deck repair here in PA cuz the inspectors nitpick every damn bolt. feels like they just wanna make our lives hell instead of keeping folks safe. youd think with all the real crap out there theyd cut us some slack on handyman gigs. total drag when a quick job blows up like that.

Screw the inspectors, man. They're just power-tripping on us small guys while the big contractors slide by with half-assed work. It's the same BS everywhere, turning honest jobs into red tape hell.

Totally feel you on that. Last permit I pulled for a basic drywall patch cost me three days of back-and-forth emails with the county office. Makes you wanna go rogue sometimes.
