been in the Chicago area my whole career, and I've been slinging handyman services solo for about 8 years now, mostly fixing up leaky faucets, hanging shelves, and patching drywall in these old bungalows. lately I've been bumping my rates from $75 to $95 an hour on new jobs, but I gotta get the word out better so clients see the value without flinching at the quote. been tweaking my google business profile, adding before-and-after pics of a recent kitchen cabinet install and updating hours to match my flexible schedule. anyone else use google my business to justify higher rates? it seems to help with local searches for 'handyman near me' but I wanna know what keywords or tips actually convert browsers to bookers. saw a thread on r/handyman last week about profile optimizations that doubled inquiries, gonna try some of that.

man, i feel you on those rate hikes, been tryin to bump mine from 60 bucks an hour but folks in my area just balk at it like i stole their wallet. google business profile aint magic, i added some pics of shingle jobs last week and still get the cheapskates callin for quotes. its frustrating as hell when you know your worth but the searches dont reflect it yet. gonna check that r/handyman thread you mentioned, maybe itll help turn things around.

man, same boat here, clients see the new rate and act like I charged em for gold plating their toilet paper holder.

for google business, load up on photos of actual jobs like that cabinet work you mentioned, and respond to every review quick. use keywords like 'reliable chicago handyman' in your description, and claim your profile if you havent. it pushed my leads up 30% last quarter without dropping rates.

man, i tried that keyword stuff last year and it was a crapshoot, leads trickled in but half were tire-kickers who ghosted on the quote.
