Out here in north jersey, was doing a quick deck railing repair last weekend for this $450 client who wanted it beefed up before winter hits. Grabbed my DeWalt 20V impact driver to sink some lag bolts into the posts, but the damn thing slipped right off a stripped bolt head and nearly drilled into my thigh - heart was pounding like crazy. Shoulda double-checked the torque settings, but lesson learned, always wear those side handle guards on sketchy jobs. Watched a video from Essential Craftsman on tool safety after, and yeah, that stuff saves lives. Anyone else had a close call with power tools on handyman fixes?

goddamn stripped heads on those old bolts are the worst, had one kick back on my milwaukee last month and left a bruise the size of a softball on my forearm, pisses me off every time.

those cheapo dewalts are great until they decide to go rogue and almost take out a leg, but really it's the damn homeowners expecting us to fix their half-assed decks on the fly without proper time to check everything. i swear, every time i hit a job in north jersey, the clients act like $450 covers a full rebuild instead of just patching their code-violating crap. last week i nearly ate it on a similar railing gig because some idiot previous contractor used undersized lags that stripped right out. we all know the inspectors up here don't give a shit until someone sues, so why should the clients? screw it, next time i'm charging double for sketchy winter jobs like this.

stick a leather work glove under that side handle for extra grip on lag bolts, keeps the deWalt from kickin' back like that in tight spots.

had the exact same crap happen with my deWalt on a stupid railing job last month, slipped and gashed my forearm open, these tools are gonna be the death of me if i dont slow down.

man, that sounds too close for comfort, had a similar scare myself with a slipping drill bit last month.

what brand of lag bolts were you using? hoping it wasnt the cheapos causing the slip.

felt that, my buddy almost lost a finger on a porch swing install last year, these tools are no joke when they fight back.

screw the inspectors and homeowners who rush us, its the bosses pushing for faster turnaround that cause half these near misses. we need better safety regs across the board.
