This Permit BS for Deck Repairs Is Killing Small Handymen Like Us in Rural Ohio

Man, I've been doing handyman work out here in rural Ohio for 15 years, fixing everything from leaky faucets to sagging decks, and this permit crap is getting ridiculous. Just yesterday I had to pull a permit for a simple 10x12 deck repair job because the inspector said it involved structural changes under the local building code, even though it was just replacing a few rotted joists. Cost me $150 in fees and half a day waiting around, and the homeowner got pissed about the delay. I'm a one-man show, no big crew or fancy insurance setup, and now every little fix risks turning into a paperwork nightmare. Anyone else dealing with this? Saw a thread on r/HomeImprovement about inspectors going overboard lately. Feels like they're trying to squeeze us small guys out.

same BS here in rural ohio, inspectors treating every joist swap like its a full rebuild just to justify their jobs. cost me a whole morning last week on a nothing repair, and the homeowner was fuming about the holdup. its like theyre out to bury us small timers under fees and delays. been there brother, hangs on.

this permit BS is straight up killing my side gigs too, had to shell out $200 just to replace some deck posts last month and the inspector nitpicked every damn thing. feels like theyre gunning for us small timers to force us into big company jobs or somethin. im barely breakin even after fees and waitin around, and the customers always blame me for the hassle. screw this, might have to stick to indoor fixes only.

Screw the inspectors, they're just power-tripping on us independents while the big contractors slide by with their lawyers and bribes. Rally up, we need to fight this bureaucracy before it buries the whole trade.
