SharkBite Fittings at $25 a Pop Are a Scam for Handyman Jobs

Look, I'm all for quick fixes on leaky faucets and pipe runs, but charging clients $25 each for SharkBite fittings just to connect 1/2-inch PEX is getting ridiculous when I could solder copper for half the hassle. Watched that Essential Craftsman video where he tears into push-to-connect stuff, and now I'm second-guessing every quote. Fight me if you think they're worth the markup.

i ditched sharkbites years ago and my business boomed sticking to soldered copper and propress fittings on every job. clients love the lifetime warranty i offer because it aint some cheap push-fit hack that might leak in five years. now im pulling in steady $5k-7k per full repipe without the callbacks that used to piss me off. proud to say my crews are the go-to guys in town for work that lasts.

stick to soldering copper for anything permanent, but keep a couple sharkbites in the truck for those emergency cap-offs when the water wont shut off.

stick with soldering on those handyman gigs if you can, but honestly sharkbites saved my ass on a tight remodel last month where i couldnt torch without risking the drywall. i use em for quick 1/2-inch pex runs in walls, but only up to 150 psi and check the o-ring seating every time to avoid leaks down the line. if youre quoting $25 each, bump it to $35 to cover the hassle factor and markup. swap to viega propress for bigger jobs, its faster and way more reliable long-term.

sharkbites are like that quickie marriage you regret when the bill comes due, $25 for a push-fit divorce waiting to happen. i'll stick to soldering, even if it means i'm the slowpoke on the block.

hell, i tried sharkbites on a quick bathroom fix last week and one popped off mid-demo, flooding the whole damn space like a bad infomercial. now im back to sweating copper joints, even if it means my torches smell like burnt flux forever. essential craftsman aint wrong, those push-fits are like dating the girl who seems easy but leaves you with leaks in the morning. shoulda stuck to basics from apprentice day one, but nope, i fell for the no-tools hype. clients laugh when i bill em for the 'adventure' now lol.

stick to solderin copper for those handyman gigs, saves you 15 bucks a pop and holds up way better long-term than sharkbites ever will.

man, i feel you on those sharkbite prices, been ripping em out of jobs where they leak after a year and charging extra to fix the mess. soldered copper every time now, half the hassle like you said. essential craftsman nailed it, that videos got me rethinking all my push-to-connect crap too.

those damn sharkbite makers are screwing us handymen with their inflated prices while handymen charge an arm and a leg for a quick push, total BS when soldering's cheaper and lasts forever.

Man, I hate quoting those things too, clients think they're gold but half the time they leak anyway and I'm back on site for free.

PE rollups are shoving this crap down our throats to cut labor time, but us independents get screwed with the callbacks while they pocket the difference.
