Cold outreach for handyman gigs turning into a total crap-show

I've been hitting up homeowners with flyers about my general repair services, but man, the responses are brutal. One guy wanted me to fix his leaky faucet using PEX tubing, but then ghosted after I sent the quote. Another called about patching drywall after a kitchen remodel gone wrong, but they expected it for free because 'it's small.' I'm using these door hangers with my services listed like cabinet installs and fence repairs, but it's like nobody wants to pay for quality work anymore. Frustrated as hell, been at this for five years and cold outreach used to net me steady jobs. Now it's just wasting my time and gas money. Anyone got tips to make this work without sounding like a pushy salesman?

ditch the flyers and try nextdoor for targeted posts, gets you real leads without the door-to-door grind. i switched to that a couple years back and my conversion rate jumped to about 30% on inquiries, way better than the ghosting crap you described. keep your pitches short, like 'quick pex fix for $150 flat, no surprises,' and always ask what their budget is upfront to weed out the cheapskates. throw in a referral perk too, say $50 off next job if they send a buddy your way. been doing handyman work in these parts long enough to know quality beats volume every time.

ditch the flyers and try nextdoor ads instead, i targeted a 5-mile radius around my area and booked three solid handyman gigs in the first week without the ghosting bs.

these cheapskate homeowners are the WORST, always expecting free labor like it's 1950 or somethin, makes me wanna quit this crap-show too.

those cheapskate homeowners are the worst, acting like quality work should be free just because they saw some diy crap on youtube. i tried door hangers last summer and half the calls were folks wanting free advice over the phone before ghosting me. it's like they've got no shame, expecting us to bend over backwards for pennies while they haggle like it's a flea market. angi and thumbtack are even worse, flooding us with leads that turn into total time sucks. screw cold outreach, man, time to focus on referrals from real customers who get it.

ditch the door hangers and switch to nextdoor posts targeted at your local zip codes, i get 3-4 solid leads a week without the gas burn.

ditch the flyers and try nextdoor posts instead, they're free and get way more bites from folks who actually need handyman work. set up a profile with before/after pics of a cabinet install to show you're legit, pulls in 2-3 solid leads a week for me.

that's why i stopped cold outreach years ago, switched to referrals and now i'm booked solid.

referrals are gold, but how do you even start if you're solo like me?

ditch the flyers, focus on networking with realtors for remodel leads.

ugh, i feel your pain, cold calls are the worst part of being a handyman.

what kind of script are you using on those door hangers? maybe tweak the wording to highlight quick fixes like gutter cleaning.

yeah man, been there with the ghosting clients, it's demoralizing.

try adding a discount code on the flyers for first-time jobs, got me a few fence repair gigs that stuck.
