been doing handyman work around seattle for 8 years now, and focusing on google reviews has been a game changer for steady leads. i make it a point to ask every satisfied customer for a review after jobs like deck repairs or bathroom vanities, and it costs me about $50 in coffee gift cards as incentives but brings in $3k a month extra. if you're just starting, get that google business profile set up right away and respond to every review, good or bad.

smart move on the coffee cards, i started texting a quick 'loved working with you, mind dropping a review?' link right after payment and my google profile jumped from 4.2 to 4.8 stars in three months.

the coffee card trick is solid but i texted a link once and the dude left me a 5 star with a 3 paragraph complaint about my shoes. still bumped me to 4.9 though so whatever works. been chasing 5s all year and those follow up texts are half the battle out here. how long before yours started coming in steady?

man, i tried the same review hustle in portland and the gift cards added up quick before the leads even kicked in, felt like i was just buyin goodwill for months.

coffee gift cards? man, i tried that once and the customer just asked if i could throw in a free oil change for her prius instead of the review.

incentives like coffee cards for reviews is straight up review gating, and you'll get your google profile suspended faster than you can say 'fake ass leads'.

dont do gift cards for reviews, google's been cracking down and a buddy in seattle lost his whole profile over it.

goddamn google reviews are a cesspool, every picky asshole leaves a 1-star over nothing while the good jobs get ignored. we handymen bust our asses fixing their leaky faucets and busted shelves, and then yelp or angi floods us with fake lead fees on top. screw the whole system, time to go back to word of mouth only.
