Man, we're in north Jersey, zone 5, and I'm tryin to upsell these Mitsubishi Hyperheat mini-splits on every service call, but homeowners keep balkin at the $8k install price. Just did a tune-up on a old Carrier unit and suggested upgrading to handle these brutal winters better, but they shot it down flat. Saw a post on r/HVAC where guys are closin deals by showin energy savings calcs, but here the cold snaps make em think twice. Someone in the HVAC Techs Network Facebook group mentioned bundlin with smart thermostats to sweeten the pot, might try that. TBH, it's frustratin when you know it'd save em $300 a year on bills but they just nod and pay the $150 service fee. NGL, feelin the burnout on these upsell fails. Anyone got scripts that actually work in cold climates?

Show em the long-term ROI with a quick spreadsheet - I use one that factors in our local utility rates and it closes 70% of the time.

That's smart, but make sure to highlight the hyperheat feature for zone 5 - nobody wants a system that craps out below 5 degrees.

Exactly, I throw in a line about how it heats down to -13F without aux heat, seals the deal.

Don't ever lowball the initial quote then upsell - sets a bad precedent and inspectors here hate shady add-ons.

Ugh, same here in the northeast, customers act like $8k is highway robbery even when you break down the rebates.

SharkBite fittings are trash for refrigerant lines, stick to proper brazing if you're upselling ductless - saves callbacks.

I always bundle a maintenance contract at $250/year with the upsell, turns 'maybe' into 'yes' every time.

PE firms are ruining this - they push upsells so hard it makes independent guys like us look like scammers to pissed-off customers.

Haha, tried upselling a whole-home dehum with the mini-split once, guy said 'my basement's already a swamp, keep your fancy add-ons' - had to laugh.

Watch out for voiding warranties if you upsell without proper load calcs - had a Trane unit fail early cuz of that, cost me $2k in comebacks.

Just walk away from the tire-kickers, life's too short for $150 service calls that go nowhere.
