Listen up, I'm a veteran tech in north jersey, zone 5 winters hit hard here. Saw a homeowner try to slap in a Mitsubishi Hyperheat unit himself after watching some YouTube vid, ended up with a $4500 refrigerant leak nightmare when it froze solid first cold snap. Total crap-show, had to evacuate the lines and recharge with R-410a, took two days. If you're green and thinking of cutting corners on a $3000 install, just call a pro, it'll save you headaches and cash. Mentioned this in HVAC Techs Network FB group, bunch of guys agreed it's a common screw-up. IME, always check superheat and subcool before walking away, especially in our climate. Shoulda known better, but newbies gonna newbie.

god damn it, why do people think they can handle brazing lines after one video? pissed me off last month on a similar job.

exactly, these PE-backed companies are buying up good techs and letting amateurs flood the market, it's a joke.

good for you, but mini splits over ducted? overrated in retrofits, stick to trane xr for reliability.

why even bother with r410a anymore, go prop65 compliant and charge more.
