Had this lady call up wanting a new Carrier Infinity system because her neighbor got one and it's 'the best.' I quote her $4500 for the full install including the 3-ton unit and all the duct mods, and she loses her shit saying it's highway robbery. NGL, I almost laughed when she asked if I could just slap it in for $1500 like some YouTube hack.

these homeowners crack me up, they see some shiny carrier badge and think we're all just slappin' units in for beer money. $4500 is a damn steal for a full infinity install with ductwork, especially when you factor in the labor and code compliance that keeps the house from burnin' down. i've had so many like her ghost after quotin' real prices, then call back beggin' when their cheap hack job floods the place. screw the youtube diy crowd, they're the reason we get these lowball demands.

Tell me about it, they watch one video and suddenly they're experts on superheat.

Yeah, then you gotta clean up their frozen coil mess for double the price.

After 10 years, I just add a 'idiot tax' to quotes like that.

PE firms are buying up shops and jacking rates anyway, might as well.

PE vultures are circling every trade now, jacking up parts costs and squeezing us independents until we cant breathe while they flip companies like pancakes.

Never quote over the phone, always insist on a full site visit to scare off the tire-kickers.
