Frustrated with HVAC insurance premiums eating my service calls

Man, I'm so pissed about these insurance costs right now, they're killing my margins on basic AC tune-ups. Last quarter, I had to up my liability coverage because of some new regs on handling R-410A refrigerant, and now every Trane unit install feels like it's gotta cover the extra. Spent half the day yesterday just balancing the books after a routine duct cleaning job, and the premiums are what's screwing me over. Anyone else dealing with this crap in the field? Saw a thread on r/HVAC where guys were venting about the same thing. I even joined HVAC Techs Network on Facebook hoping for tips, but it's mostly complaints. FML, thought going solo would be easier but this tax season is a nightmare without a good CPA. Need to find a better way to deduct these fees or something.

How do you track your insurance deductibles for tax purposes?

I use QuickBooks and tag everything under business expenses. Keeps the IRS happy. But yeah, premiums suck.

Same here, brother. Those R-410A rules hit hard.

Look into bundling your commercial auto with the liability, can save 15-20% on premiums. Talk to a broker who knows HVAC.

Good call. My broker switched me to Progressive for the fleet and it dropped noticeably. Worth the phone call.

Deduct every premium payment as a business expense, it's straightforward.

Insurance is the silent killer, man. One bad claim and you're toast.

What exactly changed with the R-410A regs that bumped your rates?

EPA tightened the handling certifications, more liability for leaks. My carrier jacked rates 12% overnight.

Try a specialist like The Hartford, they get the trade risks better than general insurers.

Ugh, feel your pain. Premiums up, clients haggling over service fees. Total crap-show.

Switch to an HVAC-specific policy from Travelers, covers refrigerant work explicitly and deductibles are lower.

Haha, insurance reps probably don't even know what a superheat reading is, yet they insure us.

This is bullshit, premiums doubled for me after one minor claim on a Carrier system. Can't catch a break, and taxes on top? Done with this grind.
