Been in the Chicago area my whole career, and cold outreach for seasonal duct cleanings has been my bread and butter, but damn, last month I called a neighborhood about Trane system maintenance and one pissed homeowner left a 1-star review on Google claiming I was a scammer. Now it's tanking my leads, even though I never even showed up. Saw a similar rant in the HVAC Techs Network group where guys were sharing scripts to smooth things over, and someone mentioned a Bryan Orr podcast that helped with reputation management. Tried responding politely to the review but it just made it worse. Anyone got tips on turning this crap around without looking desperate? FML.
man, those bogus reviews from cold calls SUCK, been there when some paranoid homeowner labeled me a scammer on google and it killed my leads for weeks.

ha, one pissed off homeowner and your google stars take a nosedive faster than my old man's blood pressure after a bears loss. been there, called a lady about her carrier unit last summer and she calls me a telemarketer scammer, leaves a review like i stole her soul. i just started ignoring the cold calls and switched to door knocking with flyers, handed out 200 in a weekend and booked three trane cleanings without the phone rage. now my reviews are creeping back up, but damn if i dont miss the ac in the van on those chicago scorchers. that bryan orr podcast tip sounds solid, gonna check it out tonight while pounding a beer. prolly shoulda responded to that review with a joke about duct bunnies instead of polite bs. fml right? next time tell em youre offering free superheat checks, that hooks em every time.

cold calling is a minefield these days, one wrong word and you're labeled a scammer before you even hang up. dont get cute with those unsolicited pitches, especially in chicago where folks are already skeptical from all the robocall BS. i saw a buddy lose half his book over a single bad review like yours, took months to scrub it and rebuild trust. stick to referrals or google ads targeting trane owners who actually search for maintenance, or you'll keep digging that hole deeper. worst part is it poisons the well for legit duct cleaners too.

those damn homeowners are quick to trash you online but wont pick up the phone when you try to explain, its bullshit and kills the whole lead gen thing.

screw the polite responses, just hire a ghost reviewer to bury that 1-star crap with five legit ones - homeowners are too damn quick to trash us for nothin. cold calling's a war anyway, fight dirty or get buried.
