started out as a newbie hvac tech hauling a massive duffel stuffed with every wrench, gauge, and duct tape roll i could cram in. thought i'd need it all for every service call, but man it slowed me down lugging that beast up three flights. now after ten years, my kit's half the size, just the essentials like my favorite manifold, a few manifold hoses, and that one mini vacuum pump that covers 80% of jobs. keeps me moving quick without the backache. what's in your pared-down setup, and what junk did you finally ditch?

same here, got older and my bag got lighter. now it's just crimpers, snips, and a basic multimeter, van's got the heavy stuff.

van life saves the day. but don't skimp on good work boots, they'll last longer than cheap ones.

apprentices, grab a backpack first. way easier on your shoulders for those crawlspaces.

used to overload mine with extra fittings and torches. now? slim pouch with recovery machine hoses, leak detector, and tape. rest stays in the truck. took a few bad backs to learn that.

haha yeah, truck as extension cord for tools is key. what leak detector you swear by?

the electronic one, not those soapy bubble kits. picks up freon fast without the mess.

as a first-year, i started with basics: adjustable wrench, thermometer, and multimeter. learned most jobs don't need the full arsenal.

my go-to is the klein soft bag, holds gauges, drill bits, and zip ties without bulking up. ditched the old canvas monster years ago.

took me five seasons to trim it down. now carry a torque wrench, micron gauge, and that's it for installs. speed kills the competition.

legend move sharing kits with newbies. i scored my first manifold secondhand and it's still kicking after a decade of abuse.
