Licensing BS cost me $800 on a simple mini-split install, anyone else?

So I'm out on a service call swapping out a Carrier mini-split condenser, nothing crazy, just standard R-410a recharge and some wiring tweaks to meet NEC code 440. Been doing this in Texas for 15 years, and the damn licensing renewal snuck up on me - had to pay $800 in late fees and CE credits just to keep my HVAC contractor license active. Customer's waiting on the job finish, but now I'm scrambling to get the inspector out for the refrigerant line set approval. It's all digital now with the TDLR portal, but the system's glitchy as hell. Laughable how one forgotten renewal turns a quick $1200 gig into a paperwork nightmare. Y'all dealing with this crap too?

set up auto-renewal on that TDLR portal or you'll get nailed with late fees every time, had a buddy lose his license over it last year.

goddamn state boards are a racket, squeezing us for every last dime while they sit on their asses. had a similar mess last year with tdlr dragging their feet on a permit renewal, cost me an extra $500 in fines and i almost lost the whole job over it. these bureaucrats dont give a crap about the real work we do, just want to nickel and dime us into oblivion. inspectors showing up late or not at all, and now the portals glitch out like it's 1999. it's bullshit how one slip-up turns pros like us into paperwork slaves. texas especially, with all the heat on hvac guys, they pile on the fees to make it hurt. we need to band together and push back against this crap before it kills small shops.

man, that licensing BS in texas is a total pain, hit me with a $600 late fee last year and turned a simple service call into a week of headaches.

man, letting that renewal slip cost me a whole job last year when the inspector shut down a ductless install mid-refrigerant charge. don't ever wing it without double-checking your license status, especially with tdlr breathing down your neck on those digital filings. had a buddy who ignored the notice and ended up owing double the fees plus a suspended cert that killed his bookings for months. set a calendar alert for those ce credits every damn year or you'll be scrambling like this again. texas regs are no joke, they can tank your schedule faster than a bad brazed joint.

tdlr is the biggest scam in the trades, always hitting us with late fees and glitchy portals while they sit on their asses. screw that bureaucracy, it's killing small guys like us one renewal at a time.
