Out here in Phoenix, zone 2 heat means we're all sweating bullets, and I decided to try door knocking for routine Carrier maintenance checks last summer. Knocked on maybe 50 doors in a single afternoon, pitching $150 annual tune-ups to beat the dust buildup, but half the folks slammed the door yelling about solicitors. One guy even called the cops, saying I was harassing him during his AC outage - had to explain I was just trying to prevent exactly that kinda crap. Spent $200 on flyers and water just to come home empty-handed and dehydrated. Now I'm second-guessing the whole cold outreach thing; feels like a total waste when Angi leads cost the same but convert better. Don't get me started on the heat rash from hauling my toolkit around neighborhoods. If you're in a hot market like this, skip the knocking and stick to online ads IMO.

Door knocking in the summer heat? You're braver than me, man - I'd rather wrestle a pissed-off compressor than chase down strangers in 110 degrees. Sounds like a comedy of errors.

Fuck these anti-solicitation laws, they're killing small outfits like us trying to drum up legit work. Every city's got some BS rule now.

Yeah, and the HOAs pile on with their no-flyer nonsense. It's like they want their AC to crap out mid-summer.

HOAs are the worst, fining you for parking your van overnight while their units are wheezing from neglect. Rage-inducing.

SharkBite-level controversial take: door knocking still works if you target the right hoods, like older subdivisions with original units. Screw the naysayers; I've closed 3 jobs this month that way.

Those original units are ticking time bombs anyway. But yeah, pick your battles - avoid the gated communities.

Felt that dehydration burn; did the same rounds last year and ended up with heat exhaustion after 20 houses. Not worth the hassle.

Same here, tried it in Tucson and got zero bites after a full day. Switched to NextDoor posts and actually booked a few tune-ups without breaking a sweat.

Man, the cop call sounds rough - been there with a paranoid homeowner thinking I was casing the joint. Door knocking's a young man's game; my knees can't take it anymore.

Collections on those maintenance gigs suck too when they flake, but yeah, the outreach grind is real. Sorry you dealt with that mess.

Echoing the heat exhaustion part; Phoenix summers are no joke. Stick to early mornings if you must knock, and carry extra water.

Try partnering with a local realtor for referrals instead - I got two Carrier installs last quarter that way, no knocking required. Saves time and sanity.
