I'm so pissed at these new permit requirements for replacing Lennox air handlers - just got hit with a $450 fee on a $6k job and the inspector nitpicked the whole ductwork setup. Clients don't wanna pay extra for this crap, and now I'm eating the cost or losing bids to hacks who skip it. How do you even build that into your contracts without scaring people off?

man, that permit BS is the worst, straight up killing margins on every lennox swap i've done this year. had a similar crap show last month where the inspector red-tagged my whole setup over some duct seal that wasnt even out of code, cost me an extra $300 to reschedule the client. clients act like you're robbing them when you tack on fees for this, but the hacks skipping permits are the real problem, leaving us legit guys holding the bag. i feel your pain, been eating costs on two jobs already just to keep the peace. it's like the city's out to get us small outfits while the big boys grease the wheels. shoulda built a line item for inspections in my contracts sooner, but now i'm quoting 10% buffer on all HVAC bids. sucks how it scares off the budget shoppers too. we all been there, brother, hang in there.

man, that permit BS is straight up killing my margins too, had a $5k lenox swap turn into a money pit last month cuz the inspector decided the flex duct was one inch off code.

just slap a line item on the contract for 'inspector's ego tax' at $450 and watch the clients chuckle instead of bail. shoulda started charging for the BS years ago, now im the funny guy who still gets paid.

skipping permits will bite you in the ass eventually, i saw a guy get fined $10k last year for a botched lennox install that failed inspection. dont risk your license over a few hundred bucks, just bake it into the quote upfront.

screw the inspectors, they're all in bed with the big corps pushing unnecessary regs to line their pockets. we need to fight back as a trade or we'll all go under.

hell yeah, finally someone saying it out loud. been railing against this in my crew meetings for years. my business cleared $280k last year by weaseling around half those fees - selective bidding on the easy permits only.

SharkBite fittings on HVAC lines? Nah, stick to soldered copper every time, permits go smoother and no leaks down the road. Fight me if you disagree.
