I've been doing HVAC installs in the Chicago area my whole career, and let me tell ya, don't skimp on your liability coverage for refrigerant work. Last month I had a Trane coil leak on a service call that turned into a full system flush, and the homeowner's insurance dragged their feet for weeks before paying out anything. Turns out my policy didn't fully cover the R-410a recovery fees, left me out $800 after the fact. PSA: review your workers comp and GL riders every year, especially if you're touching high-pressure lines like in zone 5 winters. I saw a video from HVAC School on this exact issue, Bryan Orr broke it down perfectly. Shoulda upgraded to that umbrella policy sooner, now I'm eating the deductible. FML.
insurance companies are straight-up crooks when it comes to hvac claims, they nickel and dime you on every refrigerant recovery while their ceos laugh all the way to the bank. i had a similar mess with a carrier unit in zone 4 last year, and my gl policy only covered half the flush costs because some fine print about high-pressure lines. screw that, i ditched the cheapo provider and went with something that actually pays out, like $250k umbrella from a real trade specialist. op, you think bryan orr calls this out enough in his videos? honestly, these riders are BS designed to leave us holding the bag after a leak turns into a nightmare. shoulda known better than to trust the big insurers with zone 5 winters freezing everything solid. next time im charging clients upfront for recovery fees to cover my ass.

hey OP, what kinda umbrella policy did you end up adding to cover that R-410a recovery crap?

insurance companies are straight up bandits with these refrigerant claims, they nickel and dime you until you're broke even when you're covered. fight me if you think umbrella policies are worth the hassle, i've dodged 'em for years and come out ahead.

add a specific rider for refrigerant recovery to your GL policy, it'll save you from those surprise hits like the $800 you ate. i use state farm's commercial add-on and it's covered up to 5k without much hassle.

insurance companies are the biggest crooks in this game, always nickel and diming us on refrigerant claims while they rake in billions. had a similar mess with a carrier flush last year and they fought me tooth and nail on the $1200 recovery costs. screw em, we need to band together and push back harder on these BS policies.

upgraded to that umbrella policy two years back and it's already saved my ass twice on refrigerant messes like yours. now i'm running three trucks without sweating the small claims, feels damn good to have the coverage locked in tight. insurance companies hate when you're prepared, but i sleep better knowing my 20-year business ain't getting screwed. hit $250k revenue last year and didn't lose a dime to bullshit deductibles.

insurance companies are just legalized thieves, theyll nickel and dime you on every claim no matter how legit, i dropped my old carrier for a smaller one that actually pays out without the BS runaround.

add a specific rider for r-410a recovery in your gl policy, i bumped mine up to $2 million last year and it saved my ass on a similar flush job. most carriers like travelers or hartford let you tack it on for under $500 annually, just make sure it covers environmental cleanup too. zone 5 leaks hit different with that freeze-thaw crap.

i picked that umbrella policy cause the others are just glorified cash grabs thatll leave you high and dry when insurance pulls their coil scam bullshit.

yeah man, insurance companies are the worst with those claims, i switched to a state farm umbrella for like $2k a year and havent looked back.

add a $1M umbrella over your GL for refrigerant claims, it saved my ass on a similar R-410a mess last winter.

man insurance companies are the WORST, they always find a way to screw you on these claims. had a similar mess last year with a coil job where the payout barely covered half the refrigerant costs and i was stuck footing the bill. feels like they drag their feet on purpose just to wear you down. been there with the zone 5 headaches too, winters make everything twice as expensive. shoulda read the fine print on my GL rider sooner, now im paranoid checking every detail. total BS how they leave us hanging like that.

insurance companies got me once on a coil job, had to pay for the whole damn flush out of pocket... now i just tell homeowners 'it's the coil's fault, not mine' and pray they believe it lol

insurance companies got me once too, had to flush my wallet instead of the system after a coil screw-up... talk about a refrigerant recovery that's REALLY painful 😂
