Man, I'm down in Louisiana and just shelled out for my HVAC contractor license renewal last month, now the tax man is coming for quarterly estimates and it's killing my cash flow on these residential service calls. Been doing this part-time for two years, installing stuff like Carrier units and basic ductwork, but figuring out deductions for my Ridgid tools and truck mileage is a nightmare without a CPA. Saw a video from HVAC School on YouTube that mentioned writing off refrigerant like R-410A, but I'm still underwater after a slow summer. Anyone else dealing with this crap as a solo tech? Feels like every $500 job gets eaten up by paperwork. Edit: forgot to mention, my estimated payments jumped 20% this year alone.

quarterly estimates are straight up BS, jacked mine up 25% too and im drowning in paperwork after every damn renewal. feels like the irs is out to bury solo guys like us before we even make a profit.

screw the irs, i stopped filing quarterlies after my second year and just pay the penalty at tax time - it's cheaper than the hassle. cpas are just in it to bleed you dry with their $300/hr fees.

dont skip those quarterly estimates or youll get slammed with penalties, i know a guy who ignored em and owed an extra 2k in fines last year.

Screw the IRS, they treat us like we're printing money when we're just fixing busted Trane systems all day. Every tech I know is getting hammered on self-employment taxes right now.

Yeah, and don't get me started on how they audit mileage logs. Lost a buddy to that BS last year.

Hate this time of year. My books are a mess after forgetting to track every refrigerant top-off as an expense. Ended up owing $2k extra last April.

Same boat here, brother. Louisiana humidity ain't the only thing draining us.

Get QuickBooks and categorize everything from the start. Helped me deduct my whole shop setup last year without the headache. Track your CE credits too, those count as business expenses.
