Big win turned epic fail with the new Stihl trimmer on a mulching job

So I finally got my hands on that Stihl FS 131 trimmer everyone's raving about in the Lawn Care Professionals group, thought it'd make quick work of edging around all these new mulch beds. Headed to this residential job where the client wanted a full refresh, beds cleared out and fresh cedar mulch laid down nice and even. Things were going smooth until the damn thing started acting up mid-trim, string kept jamming and I ended up with mulch flying everywhere like a crap-show explosion. Called it a day after wasting half the afternoon troubleshooting, but hey, at least the beds looked killer once I switched to my old Echo backup. Lesson learned: always have a spare on hand for those 'unbreakable' new toys. NGL, felt like a total rookie even though I've been at this 5 years. Anyone else had a tool betrayal like that? Saw a similar rant on r/landscaping about fancy gear failing at the worst time.

for real, nothing worse than looking incompetent in front of a paying customer.

proud of you for pushing through and finishing strong, that's what separates pros from quitters.

try renting gear first next time to test it out before dropping cash on new stuff.

haha sounds like my first time with a fancy trimmer, ended up trimming my own pants leg.

switch to battery-powered ones, less jamming and you can run em all day without fuel drama.

got so pissed at my crew last job, they left the trimmer out in the rain and it seized up completely.

screw these big box stores pushing subpar equipment, we're all getting hosed.

hey, what exactly jammed up on that Stihl? was it the head or the line feed?

private equity types buying up tool brands and jacking quality, we're all paying for it.

solid advice, but also check your line type, some thicker ones don't play nice with high-end trimmers.

so annoyed with how these jobs always have one thing go sideways, eats into the whole day.

use Husqvarna next time, their trimmers hold up better under heavy mulch work.

don't ever skimp on maintenance, i learned that the hard way after a blade snapped mid-cut.

SharkBite for irrigation? nah, stick to pro-grade fittings, the cheap ones leak under pressure every time.
