Just got hit with a renewal on commercial insurance for the two Ford F-550s we run for hauling mulch and sod installs, and it's up to $8k a year now from $5k last season. These rates are killing small landscaping ops like mine that depend on reliable trucks for weekly mow routes and hardscape jobs. Someone in the Landscaping Professionals FB group mentioned switching to Progressive but I'm skeptical.
damn, same boat here with my F-550, insurance doubled on me last year and it's choking the whole operation. tried shopping around but these rates are straight robbery.

Switched my fleet to all-electric Ram Pros last year and insurance dropped 20%, loving the savings on fuel for those long sod delivery runs.

20% off? That's huge, what was your old rate per truck?

These insurers treat us like high-risk no matter how clean our record is, especially with the heavy loads we carry for landscape installs.

Same here, quoted $10k for a single trailer hauler after one minor fender bender on a job site.

Shop around with at least three brokers specializing in commercial fleet, don't sign the first renewal.

PE firms are buying up all the insurers too, driving rates through the roof for guys like us just trying to keep the mowers rolling.

FML, my Chevy 3500HD fleet policy doubled after a storm claim, even though it was an act of God and not our fault on that tree removal job.

Yeah the whole industry's getting screwed by these greedy companies, saw a thread on r/landscaping where a guy shut down over it.

Tried bundling with home insurance but they still hosed me on the commercial add-on for the landscape trailers.

Watched Mike Andes on YouTube talking about leasing instead of owning to dodge these insane premiums, might be worth a shot.

Leasing sounds smart, but what about the mileage limits on those long haul jobs to nurseries?

Mileage is a pain, but the insurance savings make up for it IME.

Dump the big names, go with a local broker who knows landscaping risks like equipment theft from job sites.

Same rage here, $7k for my two Fords and I barely do any off-road work, just standard lawn maintenance.

Fords? Try Dodge, their fleet policies are cheaper but the trucks break down more often.

Progressive quoted me $6k for similar coverage, worth the call even if it's a hassle.

Shopped around and found a policy through a landscaping association group rate, saved $2k easy.

This crap is why I'm sticking to one truck, can't justify the fleet costs anymore.

Guy in Lawn Care Business Owners FB group said raise your rates 15% across the board to cover it, clients won't notice.

Totally feel you, my back's killing me from driving these beaters but insurance won't touch 'em without proof of mods.

Insurance companies are the real weed in this industry, choking out the little guys.

Haha, mine tried to add a surcharge for 'landscape debris' exposure, like we don't clean up our own messes.

Frustrated as hell, had to eat the increase and now my margins on mulch jobs are toast.

Ever notice how they hike rates right before peak season? Timing is suspect AF.
