Had this lady last week who wanted the lowest bid for mulching her flower beds, so I went with the basic hardwood mulch from the local supplier. She kept pushing for less expensive options and even asked me to skip the weed barrier fabric to save a few bucks. Now she's blowing up my phone saying weeds are everywhere after just two weeks, and I told her that's what happens without proper prep like edging and fabric. I use landscape fabric under all my installs usually, but she said no way. Reminded her of the quote details, but she's acting like it's my fault. Saw a similar rant in the Lawn Care Professionals Facebook group about bargain hunters. Anyone got tips on educating clients upfront without losing the job? Watched a Mike Andes video on handling picky customers, but it didn't cover this exact BS.
Show them side-by-side pics of jobs with and without fabric, that usually shuts down the cheapskate talk.

Yeah, or just quote it with the fabric as standard and make the no-fabric option cost more somehow. Worked for me on a retaining wall job.

These clients are the WORST, always want gourmet results on a fast food budget. Screw em, next time walk away from the lowball.

What kind of mulch did you end up using? I've had luck with cedar chips holding back weeds better than hardwood.

Man, the entitlement from some homeowners drives me nuts, especially when they ignore your advice on basic stuff like this. Happened to me with a sod install where they skipped irrigation.
