Down here in Seattle, I just ate a $800 loss on a low-voltage landscape lighting install because the client wanted cheap LEDs from Home Depot and wouldn't spring for the proper conduits. Rain started pouring mid-dig, turned the yard into a mud pit, and now the wiring's exposed and fried. We've all been there with these 'budget' outdoor jobs, but seriously, build in weather delays or walk away.

Always quote a 20% contingency for Seattle rain, saved my ass last summer on a patio paver job.

20%? Make it 30%, the forecast lies every time.

Hell yeah, learned that the hard way on my first big retaining wall.

Customer called me at midnight because her landscape lights shorted out in the storm. Had to explain it's not fairy magic.

Mine asked if I could fix it with duct tape. SMH.

FML, spent all day trenching for irrigation lines and the backhoe hits a gas line. Boss was pissed, job site's shut down for a week now.

That's why I stick to hand tools for small yards, no surprises.

Hit $250k this year mostly from upselling mulch beds and sod installs, but damn those rainy days eat into it.

Congrats man, what's your secret for closing those upsells?

Same here in the PNW, every sod job turns into a swamp wrestling match.

Insurance companies are the real villains, jacking up premiums after one claim on a tree removal gone wrong.

Saw a post on r/landscaping about a guy who did free sod for a church and got sued over uneven edges. Wild.

Church gigs are a trap, do 'em for charity write-off only.

me and my crew was out mulching a commercial lot when the loader tips over, lost half the day cleaning up.

This crap with cheap clients wanting full xeriscape for pennies is killing small ops like mine.

Feels that, bro. Lost a whole season to bad weather last year.

Guy in Lawn Care Professionals FB group ranted about the same, said he started requiring 50% upfront for any outdoor work.

Can't stand these homeowners who DIY their beds then call you to fix the weeds takeover.

Try Jobber for scheduling around weather, it flags rainy days and reroutes jobs automatically.

Boss made me install drip lines in a drought-hit yard, client complained about overwatering anyway. Eye roll.

These big box store plants die in a week, then they blame you for the install.

Insurance is BS, paid $5k extra this year for liability on tree work alone.

Don't skimp on grounding for those low-voltage systems, zapped myself on a job last month.

SharkBite for irrigation? Nah, stick to PVC for buried lines, lasts longer underground.
