Taxes on landscaping equipment deductions: why are we getting screwed so bad?

Look, I've been in landscaping for 15 years and every tax season I feel like the IRS is out to get us small guys. You pour money into Stihl trimmers, Toro mowers, and that John Deere loader just to keep commercial jobs running smooth, but then they hit you with depreciation rules that make half your write-offs worthless after a couple years. I saw a thread on r/landscaping where some guys were raging about the same thing, and honestly, it's BS how they treat equipment like ours different from, say, office supplies. Someone in the Lawn Care Professionals Facebook group mentioned Section 179 letting you deduct up to a ton upfront, but then the fine print kills it if you're not incorporated right. Why can't we just write off the whole damn thing when we need it to survive the season? It's controversial, but I say screw the rules and max out every deduction you can find a loophole for, or we'll all be working for nothing. FML, tax prep is my least favorite part of the year.

the irs treats us landscapers like we're hobbyists, not businesses. it's collective bullshit.

exactly, they don't get how fast our gear wears out from daily mulch hauls and sod installs.
