Out here in Colorado, estimating sod jobs is turning into a crap-show with all these picky homeowners wanting full yards but flipping out at the $2500 price tag for a 2000 sq ft install using Tifway 419 bermuda. I use the standard 0.5-0.75 lb per sq ft calculation and factor in delivery from the local nursery, but they act like I'm robbing them blind when I break it down. Saw a similar rant on r/landscaping last week about underbidding to win the job and then eating costs on extras. Anyone else dealing with this pushback on basic lawn installs? Been doing this 8 years and it's getting old, especially with fuel prices jacking up the transport. Felt the same way on a recent job where the client ghosted after the quote.

try breaking out the quote into a line item for just the bermuda sod at $0.45 per sq ft before adding labor and delivery, makes 'em see the value without feelin' nickel and dimed.

man, these colorado homeowners think they're getting a full yard of green for pocket change, same BS every damn time. i quoted a simple 1500 sq ft sod job last month at $1800 with fescue from the local supplier and the guy laughed in my face like i was selling him gold. fuel costs are killing us out here with all the mountain runs, and they still haggle over every pallet. had one client who wanted me to shave off $500 because 'it's just grass,' no regard for the labor or delivery fees. it's frustrating as hell when you've got the numbers right but they ghost anyway, just like your story. been eating into my margins too much lately trying to close deals. screw underbidding, might as well start charging what the job's worth and let em walk.

dont drop your price just to close the deal or youll eat every surprise surcharge from fuel hikes and pissed off clients will leave you hanging like that ghoster.
