Been running a referral program for my landscaping installs this year and it's bringing in steady work, but now every referrer wants free mulch or a discount on their next tree planting. I use Jobber to track the referrals and set up the rewards, makes it easy to automate the emails. Last month one guy sent over three leads for patio builds and I gave him a $100 credit, but he's pushing for more like free sod installation. Feels like the program's turning into a charity sometimes. Anyone else dealing with clients nickel-and-diming the referral perks? Should I cap it at one free service or just raise the threshold?

how do you even set the initial reward amount in jobber without it spiraling like that? i've been thinking of starting something similar for my crew's hardscape jobs but worried it'll turn into freebies for everyone. last time i tried a simple $50 gift card thing, the referrer started asking for truck maintenance covered. what threshold did you start with before these patio folks got pushy? do you ever just say no and risk losing the lead? sounds like capping at one perk might work but idk if it'll kill the momentum. anyone got a script for shutting down the nickel-and-dimers without burning bridges?

these damn referrers start with a pat on the back and next thing you know they're bleeding you dry for free sod like it's their birthright, same crap everyone's dealing with from these entitled clients.

those cheap-ass referrers act like they're doing you a favor by tossing scraps your way, then they nickel and dime you for every damn perk like the program's their personal freebie buffet.

these damn referrers think they're running a loyalty club instead of just sending you some work, it's bullshit. i started capping mine at one $75 gift card after the first freebie, but they still whine for extras like it's their birthright. homeowners around here act like you owe them the world for a single lead that might not even close. saw a guy in my network get nickel-and-dimed into oblivion, ended up scrapping the whole program cuz it wasnt worth the hassle. jobber's great for tracking but doesnt stop the entitlement parade. screw raising the threshold, just draw a hard line or watch your margins vanish.

man, i feel that - my referral program's the same damn thing, started with cash credits but now they're hagglin for free installs like it's a flea market. had one guy last week push for a full yard cleanup after just one lead, and i was like dude, that's not how this works. caps it at $100 per referral here, keeps the charity vibes down.

next thing you know they'll be asking for a free hot tub install just for sending their neighbor your way, lol.

Cap it hard or you'll bleed margins on every sod job - I learned that after giving away too much free edging work early on.

Exactly, set a clear policy upfront in Jobber and stick to it no matter what. Lost a whole season's profit once from loose referrals turning into endless comps. Same boat here, feels like everyone's angling for freebies now.
