So I'm out in north Georgia doing what was supposed to be a quick afternoon mulch refresh for this lady's flower beds, but she swears up and down it's just 10 cubic yards and no surprises. Get there and the whole yard's a jungle, hidden stumps everywhere, and her dog decides to chase me through the mess while I'm edging with my Stihl trimmer. Spent three extra hours digging out roots and hauling extra river rock she forgot to mention, all while she's yelling from the porch about how it's taking too long. NGL, I charged her the full $450 flat rate but damn, that lesson hit hard: always walk the site twice before quoting landscape installs. Now I add a $50 upcharge for hidden crap like that. Funny how one rant like this makes you double-check every detail.

those damn homeowners always 'forget' the extra bullshit under the mulch, turning a quick job into a full day nightmare and stiffing us on the real cost.

man, been there with those 'simple' yard jobs that turn into all-day root-hunting nightmares, makes you wanna add that upcharge from the jump.

sounds like her dog was the real foreman on that job, barking orders while you played stump dodgeball.

man, been there with the hidden stumps and yappy dogs turning a quick job into a full day slog, makes you wanna add that upcharge to every quote upfront.

switched to always quoting with a site walkthrough fee last year and it's saved me from three mulch nightmares just like yours. now my flat rates hold firm without the surprise bullshit, and i'm pulling in steady $500 jobs without the backache. proud to say it's bumped my yearly take home by 15% easy.

proud moment when i started walkin every site myself and tacked on that $75 surprise fee, turned my landscape side hustle into a steady six figures without the headaches. clients now think twice before hidin those stumps, and i sleep better at night.

man, the 'quick mulch job' always turns into a root-digging nightmare, been there way too many times. clients swear it's simple til you're knee deep in surprises and their damn dog is nipping at your heels. added a site walk fee after my last crap show, saved my ass on the next one.

yeah, had a lady promise it was flat ground til i showed up and spent four hours yanking out tree roots while her yappy chihuahua tried to hump my boot, NEVER again without that site walk fee.

had a lady once swear her 'quick' mulch job was just a kiddie pool of dirt, turned out she meant the whole damn backyard including the neighbor's overhanging tree roots. i spent more time untangling my stihl than actually spreading anything, while her yapping chihuahua played dodgeball with my boots. ended up charging her double just for the comedy show, now i make em sign a 'no hidden jungles' clause before i touch a shovel. dogs and surprises, man... worst combo since pineapple on pizza 😂

ha, sounds like my last job where the 'simple' mulch turned into a root-filled treasure hunt with a bonus raccoon eviction. now i bring treats for the dogs just in case they wanna join the party.

god, these homeowners are the WORST with their 'simple' jobs turning into full-day nightmares, swear they forget half the crap on purpose just to screw us over. had one last week who swore it was flat ground for mulch spreading, but nope, buried irrigation lines everywhere and her kid's toys booby-trapping the whole bed. i ended up charging an extra $100 on top of the quote and still felt ripped off. we gotta start demanding site surveys or somethin' before even showin' up, this BS cant keep happenin.
