Out on a routine mulch delivery and bed edging job in Atlanta this afternoon, almost took my own leg off when the Stihl saw kicked back on a hidden root. Charged the client $800 flat for the whole yard refresh, but man, that could've been a $10k hospital bill easy. Heart was pounding, but finished the job without further drama.

those damn hidden roots are the WORST, always turning a simple job into a near-death experience and the clients never even notice the risk we're taking for their pretty yards.

glad you walked away from that kickback without a scratch, keeps the adrenaline pumping but damn it's a rush when you nail the job after. i've pulled off some hairy mulch spreads myself, like that 50-yard beast i did last spring where roots were everywhere, but staying sharp with my stihl ms 261 kept everything clean and on time. charged $1200 for that one and the client was over the moon with the fresh look, no drama. finishing strong like you did is what separates the pros from the quitters, especially in atlanta's humidity where everything fights back. i always double-check my chain tension before diving in, saved my ass more than once. proud of wrapping up that $800 yard without letting the near miss derail you. keeps me coming back for more of these wins.

Chainsaws are fine if you actually sharpen the chain right, but yeah, roots are sneaky bastards. I've seen pros get cocky and pay for it.

Cocky? It's the damn vibration that gets you after hours of edging. Shoulda quit after the first kickback warning.

This is why insurance premiums are through the roof for us landscapers, another close call and the rates spike again. Screw the system that punishes safety.

Totally, every near miss like that piles on the collective headache for the whole industry.
