man, subcontracting out mulch jobs has been a comedy of errors this season down here in central texas, where the heat makes everything twice as brutal. hired this one crew last month to handle a 10-yard pine bark spread on a big commercial lot in austin, figured it'd save me time for my core mowing clients. they botched it bad, left half the beds uneven and half the mulch scattered everywhere, cost me $1200 in fixes and a pissed-off property manager. now i'm chasing them for the invoice while dodging calls from the client about the mess. TBH, starting to think solo is better even if it means longer hours. anyone else dealing with unreliable subs on basic landscaping spreads?

been there with crappy mulch crews, man, they turn a simple spread into a total crap-show and leave you holding the bag. cost me a few grand last summer chasing down their mess on a residential job, and the client's still salty about it. solo might suck for the hours, but at least you know it'll get done right.

dont ever sub out mulch without a solid performance bond, had a crew vanish mid-job last summer and i was stuck footing a $2500 cleanup bill. vet them hard or stick solo, saves headaches.

dont ever sub out mulch without a detailed written contract up front, i had a crew ghost me last summer after half-assing a 15-yard job and it cost me 2k in cleanup plus lost referrals.

dont sub mulch jobs without 20% upfront and a mechanics lien ready, or youll be the one chasing ghosts and eating thousands in fixes.

man subs are the WORST, had a crew flake on me last summer and i ended up sweating through a whole 8-yard job solo in that texas heat, felt your pain big time.

those damn subs are the bane of every landscaper's existence, always leaving you holding the bag for their half-assed work while they ghost on the bill.

subs around here are all the same, flake out on simple mulch jobs and leave you holding the bag for their screw-ups, damn near quit subcontracting altogether last year.

for subs on mulch jobs, always do a 50% upfront and hold the rest til you inspect the work yourself. saved me from a similar crap-show last year when i made em redo the edges for free.

subs are the devil, just go back to doing it all yourself and pocket the full margin instead of sharing with flakes.

same here brother, had a similar crap-show with a mulch sub last summer and it nearly tanked my rep in the neighborhood. ditched em all and yeah, busier but way less stress. feels good not chasing deadbeats anymore.
