so im out in the pacific northwest, zone 6 rains never stop, and i just wrapped a big tree removal for this commercial client using my stihl ms 661 chainsaw, quoted them $4500 flat rate thinkin it was straightforward. turns out the stump grinder hit a hidden gas line, no fault of mine but the inspector said i shoulda marked it better. now my gl insurance with the hartford is draggin their feet on the $8k claim, sayin i need more proof of due diligence. watched that essential craftsman video on site safety last month and thought i was covered, but nope, paperwork hell. anyone else dealin with this crap? feels like theyre nickel and dimin me for every penny. laughable how one slip turns into a month of bs.
get every utility mark call on record, even the ones that show up late in the pnw mud. i had a similar mess last year and my adjuster at hartford finally budged after i emailed them the 811 ticket number and photos of the flags. throw in that essential craftsman vid link too, shows you were on top of safety. shoulda documented the grinder op's setup better but hey, live and learn.

hartford's just a bunch of suits jerkin people around, screw em and lawyer up before they bury you in paperwork. in this biz, insurance companies are the real tree stumps you gotta grind through.

man, insurance companies like the hartford are the WORST, always draggin their feet on claims no matter how straight your story is. been there with a stump job gone sideways last year, spent weeks chasin paperwork for a $6k hit. feels like theyre built to nickel and dime us trades guys outta every cent. hang in there, eventually they cough it up but its pure bs.

insurance companies are like that one buddy who borrows your stihl and returns it with a dull chain - always findin ways to screw ya over. i had a similar mess last year when my grinder nicked a sprinkler line on a wet pnw job, and the hartford pulled the same proof bs, makin me dig up three months of emails just to cover a $2k repair. laughable how they turn a quick oops into a full on paperwork apocalypse, like were archaeologists now instead of tree guys. shoulda just called it a day and blamed the rain gods. feels good to vent though, makes the nickel and dime sting a bit less. you get that claim sorted yet or still fightin the good fight?

don't ever skip the 811 call before diggin, had a buddy in seattle lose his whole rig to a gas explosion last year and the insurance bailed on him completely.

tell me about it, had a similar stump grinder scare last summer and it took forever to get paid out, knees still hurt from the stress.
