Been doing locksmith work out here in Arizona the past 8 years and I'm about ready to chuck my laptop out the window over this invoicing BS. I use Housecall Pro for scheduling lockouts and rekeys on commercial Schlage systems, but every time I add line items for pins and springs, it double-charges or forgets to tally the key blanks. Last week I did a full masterkey setup for an office building, spent 3 hours on site plus $250 in Vingcard parts, and the invoice came out all jumbled, pissed off the client who thought I was padding the bill. Saw a thread on r/Locksmith where guys were raving about ServiceTitan, but that thing's overkill for a solo op like mine, costs a fortune in subscriptions. Someone in the Locksmith Professionals Facebook group mentioned switching to QuickBooks with a locksmith plugin, but I tried it and it's no better for tracking DFU equivalents on door hardware. NGL, at this point I'd settle for something that just prints clean PDFs without the hassle. FML, invoicing shouldn't be the hardest part of the job.

Same crap here, every software promises the world but chokes on basic parts tracking.

Fight me, but ditching software altogether and using carbon copy invoices saved my sanity on small rekey gigs.

Screw the big corps like ServiceTitan, they're just PE vampires sucking subs from small shops like ours.

Those jumbled invoices are the worst, had a client walk last month over it.

Client called at midnight for a lockout, I fixed it with my HPC code machine in 20 mins, then invoiced on the spot with a handwritten receipt, no software drama.

Man I get it, nothing worse than tech failing you mid-job.

Customer thought the springs were freebies, argued for 10 mins over a $15 line item, hilarious but annoying.

Housecall Pro is trash for hardware tracking, stick to Joist app, it's simpler for us solo guys.

Those double-charges kill repeat business, especially with picky commercial clients who want every pin accounted for.

Insurance is skyrocketing because of these PE roll-ups demanding we use their crappy systems.

Clients ghost you after a botched invoice, lost a good apartment complex account that way.

Every damn time I try a new app, it fails on the first big rekey job.

Big box stores undercutting us with their cheap key cutting, and now software is screwing the rest.
