Been running my locksmith gig solo for a bit, and invoicing these late-night lockout calls is turning into a total crap-show. Last week I had a guy locked out of his deadbolt, spent an hour picking it open and rekeying with my Kwikset SFIC cores, but then he disputes the line item for the travel time because 'it wasn't in the quote.' I use Housecall Pro for the billing, but it doesn't always catch those add-ons smoothly, especially when the customer's half-asleep and nodding along. Anyone got a better way to handle emergency surcharges without the back-and-forth? Feels like I'm chasing my tail every time. NGL, it's making me rethink solo ops.

switch to quoting a flat $150 emergency minimum upfront with housecall pro's custom fields, covers travel and keeps the back-and-forth minimal.

switch to jobber for invoicing, it lets you add emergency surcharges right in the app before you even start the job so no disputes later. had the same headache with housecall pro until i made the change, saved me hours of back-and-forth.

Switch to Jobber for invoicing - it lets you set up auto-surcharges for after-hours calls and templates the whole thing so customers sign off upfront. Been using it for my installs and cuts the disputes in half.

Fuck these customers acting like emergency service is free. Every damn time I rekey a Schlage after a break-in, they nickel and dime the mileage, like we ain't risking our necks at 2am. Time to union up or some shit.
