Had a call last night where the customer swore it was just a stuck Kwikset deadbolt, so I showed up thinking quick 15-min fix. Turns out the core was drilled by a previous hack job, and it nearly locked me out of my own van while I was fumbling for the spare key in the dark. PSA: always double-check for tampering before committing to a flat rate, or you'll eat $500 in wasted time and parts like I did. Don't be me.

goddamn kwikset cores are the WORST, always turning a simple service call into a total crapshoot thanks to those half-assed previous jobs that leave us holding the bag.

had the exact same BS last month with a kwikset core that looked fine til i started drilling, then boom, van keys locked inside and im out $400 on a tow and parts. those cheap cores are a nightmare for any locksmith worth his salt.

man, fumblin for that spare key in the dark sounds like my last tango with a schlage core that decided to ghost me halfway through the job 😂

man, that kwikset core turning into a van lockout fiasco is the stuff of locksmith nightmares, i swear ive been there more times than i can count. last week i had one where the damn thing jammed mid-turn and i was out there in the pouring rain, keychain jingling like a fool while the customer just stares. ate a solid two hours fumbling with picks and spares, and yeah, that $500 hit feels like a kick in the teeth every time. why do these hack jobs always show up after dark, right? feels like the universe is conspiring against us solo guys. been double-checking with a quick scope now, saves the headache.

man that sucks, had a similar drill-out fiasco last week that left me stranded on site.

NGL, Kwikset's fine for rentals but crap for anything serious. Switched to Schlage and never looked back.

same here, customer calls at 10pm for a 'simple' rekey and it's a mangled Medeco setup.

feels like every third job is some DIY disaster waiting to bite you.

ate a $400 loss on a botched IC core pin last month, customer ghosted after.
