Finally got my California C-33 painting contractor license after grinding through the exam prep last month. Down here in southern California, it cost me $850 for the app, test, and a couple online courses to cram the regs and trade stuff. Now I can bid on those bigger jobs without the hassle, like exterior stucco work on multi-family units. Worth every penny IMO.
Congrats man, that C-33 opens up a ton of doors for commercial gigs. Grab a Benjamin Moore account while you're at it for better margins on those jobs.

Benjamin Moore is solid but their Advance line is a pain to spray without clogging, stick with Emerald for exteriors.

Tried Emerald last week, held up great in the heat down here.

Good for you, but screw the state for making us jump through these hoops just to paint walls. It's all about lining their pockets with fees while we do the real work.

Same here, been chasing that cert for years and now it feels like a weight off my shoulders.

Haha, I remember my test day - showed up with paint in my hair from practicing brushwork the night before, looked like a walking ad for the trade.

Don't sleep on the CE credits after you get it, I skipped renewing mine once and it cost me a $500 fine plus double the renewal fee on a job site inspection.

Those licensing boards are a racket everywhere, forcing us painters and plumbers alike to pay up or sit out big contracts. Time to unionize against this BS.
