Hey folks, I've been doing small painting gigs solo with just paper invoices but now that I'm getting more cabinet refinish jobs, I need something better for tracking Sherwin-Williams material costs and client payments. Watched a Tommy Mello video where he talked about using QuickBooks Online for service businesses, and it got me thinking it might work for us painters too. Someone in the Painting Contractors Facebook group mentioned integrating it with Jobber for scheduling sprays and roll-ons. I'm worried about the learning curve though, especially entering DFU-like details for multi-day exterior jobs. Any painters here made the switch and can share how it handles progress billing without screwing up your cash flow? Saw a similar thread on r/paintingbusiness asking about invoicing apps, but wanted more painting-specific advice. Also, does anyone use it for uploading before/after photos of trim work directly?
QuickBooks Online is solid for painters; set up categories for Benjamin Moore vs generic paints to track costs easy.

Yeah, link it to your bank for auto-imports on Sherwin-Williams receipts. Saves hours on end-of-month.

HATE how these software companies nickel and dime you with add-ons for basic shit like invoice templates. Painting ain't rocket science but they make it feel like it.

Totally, every update costs more. We're getting screwed by these PE-backed tools.

Same here, just want simple billing for my crew's drywall patch jobs without the BS.

Felt the same starting out; QuickBooks took me a weekend to figure but now I can't go back.

Man, the frustration of manual tracking when you're covered in paint at day's end.

Switch to Housecall Pro instead, it's more painter-friendly for quoting trim and cabinets without the accounting headache.

Housecall Pro does integrate photos well for client approvals on color changes.

This exact problem killed my flow last season; papers everywhere during big house paints.

Screw the big software giants; they target us trades to boost their margins while we chase payments.

Ugh, been there with disorganized invoices leading to forgotten follow-ups on payments.

Big corps owning these apps means constant price hikes, leaving small painting ops in the dust.

Relate hard; started invoicing digitally and it cut my admin time in half for interior jobs.

Same, now I bill per room and clients pay faster seeing the breakdown.

For painting, use the mobile app to snap pics of prepped walls and attach to invoices on site.

I've been using it for years; templates for flat rate vs T&M on exteriors are a game changer.

Damn, the struggle of mismatched invoices and unhappy clients is too real in this trade.

Don't skimp on training; I wasted time fumbling entries for my first few Sherwin jobs.

Ever tried emailing an invoice and the client ghosts you? Had a guy owe me for a full kitchen spray because of that crap.

Pro tip: always include a line for change orders on color mismatches to avoid disputes.
