Man, had a close call last week on an exterior house paint job in north Georgia, customer slipped on some overspray I missed on the driveway even though I thought I covered everything with drop cloths and plastic. Now their lawyer's sniffing around about liability, and my GL policy from the local agent is dragging their feet on coverage details. Been in the painting game 8 years and this is the first time I've had to file a claim, feels like a kick in the teeth when you're just trying to get the Sherwin-Williams Emerald on the siding right. Anyone else dealt with this crap? Saw a similar rant in the Painting Contractors Facebook group about subcontractors getting screwed on claims. I use Housecall Pro for scheduling but it doesn't cover the legal side, wish I'd watched that Idaho Painter video on risk management before this mess.

What exactly did the lawyer say? Did they mention any specific damages?

Just bruises and a sprained ankle from what I heard, but they're pushing for medical bills. Lawyer's letter was vague, all about 'negligence' with the paint setup.

Insurance companies are the real villains here, always finding ways to deny painters on exterior jobs like this. Screw them, we pay enough premiums already.

Call your agent ASAP and get everything documented, photos of your setup included. I had a similar slip on a deck job and my policy covered it after I submitted the incident report within 24 hours.

For exterior work, always add a hold harmless clause in your contract for stuff like this. Also, recommend using non-slip mats under ladders and sprayers, saved me on a Benjamin Moore job last summer.
