so i'm a painting contractor and been in the chicago area my whole career, mostly doing commercial jobs with benjamin moore emerald for that durable finish. last week i went to renew my lead certification for those old buildings we gotta scrape and encapsulate, and the instructor pulls out this 'new' requirement: a 4-hour module on something called 'safe brushing techniques' to avoid repetitive strain. i mean, come on, i've been swinging woolies and china brushes for 15 years without a single workers comp claim, and now i gotta watch a video on how to hold a purdy? the whole class was painters cracking up, one guy said he'd rather pay the $500 fine than sit through that crap. anyone else dealing with these dumbass updates? saw a similar rant in the painting contractors facebook group about it eating into billable hours.

don't waste your time on that brushing module, i skipped it once and the inspector never even asked.

yeah but if they audit you it's a nightmare.

audits are rare in chicago, just fake the cert and move on.

faking it got me a warning last year, not worth the risk.

these certs are killing small shops, i spent 8 hours last month on nonsense and missed a $2k interior job.

lead cert is a must if you're touching pre-78 houses, don't cut corners.
