Been quoting interior painting jobs around north jersey for 5 years now, and im consistently underbidding by at least 20% on the big ones. Just did a 2500 sq ft house, quoted $6500 for two coats of benjamin moore regal select, but materials and labor ate up way more than expected cuz of all the trim work. Anyone else in the northeast dealing with this crap? Feels like im leaving money on the table every time.

bump your quotes to $3.50 per sq ft for regal select jobs in jersey, that covers the trim crap without getting hosed on materials.

break out your trim work on a separate line item at $2.50 per linear foot for regal select jobs, it'll cover the extra time without scaring off the homeowner.

man, same boat here in jersey - quoted a 2000 sq ft colonial last month at $5800 for sherwin williams duration and ended up eating $1200 in overtime on the damn crown molding alone. trim work always sneaks up and bites you in the ass. feels like every big job turns into a money pit if you dont pad the quote heavy.

don't lowball that trim work, man, itll bite you every time in jersey houses with all the crown molding and baseboards. i saw a guy get stuck on a 3000 sq ft job last year, quoted flat without breaking out the details, and ended up working weekends just to cover costs. start quoting trim separate at $2-3 per linear foot on top of the wall sq footage, or youll keep bleeding money like that. homeowners up here love nickel and diming, but if you dont pad for the crap they throw at you mid-job, youre screwed. factor in at least 25% contingency for surprises, trust me.

jersey homeowners are the WORST, always nickel and diming on trim details while expecting museum quality for peanuts. it's like they think we're magicians pulling profit out of thin air.

dont underbid the trim work on those big jersey houses, i lost a whole month chasing a job last year cuz i didnt factor in the extra time for all the crown molding and baseboards.

jersey homeowners are the WORST, always nickel and diming on quotes while expecting museum quality work for cheap. i underbid a 2000 sq ft job last month cuz i forgot to factor in the endless trim details and ended up eating $1500 in labor costs. screw this lowball game, we need to start charging what we're worth before these cheapskates run us all out of business.
