Out here in north jersey, doing a demo on Sherwin-Williams Emerald paint for a $2500 interior repaint job, and the client's 5-year-old grabs the brush while I'm turning away for two seconds. Kid proceeds to slather green paint all over their tabby cat, now it's meowing and streaking paint across the carpet. Had to call it a day early, billed them the full $2500 minus a $200 discount for the chaos, but damn that was a mess to clean up. The cat's fine after a bath, but the parents were mortified. NGL, couldn't stop laughing later with the guys. Moral of the story: never turn your back on demos with kids around.

been there with kids turning a simple demo into a total shitshow, feels like every job in jersey has that one wildcard moment.

those homeowners with their feral kids are the worst, turning a simple demo into a paint-covered catastrophe and still expecting us to eat the cleanup time.

dont ever let kids near the paint during a demo, had one swallow a brush once and spent the next hour dealing with an ER visit on my dime.

next time, bring a small paint sample tray instead of the full can to keep demos quick and low-risk with kids around. i've done that on a few jobs and it cuts the chaos by half.

man, kids on jobsites are a total crapshoot, one minute you're demoing emerald and the next you're playing pet groomer. had a similar mess last summer when a toddler smeared benjamin moore on the dog during a color consult, parents acted like it was the end of the world. billed em full anyway after the cleanup, but yeah, felt that chaos in my gut. never turn your back, brother, or it's paint apocalypse every time.

billing full price for a demo gone wrong is BS, you should've charged em double for the extra cleanup time the kid caused.

kids at job sites are the worst kinda wildcard, had one 'help' by dumping a whole gallon of benjamin moore on the floor last month and i was scrubbing til midnight pissed off.

FML, had a similar crap-show last summer when a client's dog knocked over my open can of Benjamin Moore Aura, ruined half the floor before we could mop it up. Charged full price but lost a referral outta that one, pissed me off for days.

Keep a roll of blue painter's tape handy for quick barriers during demos, works wonders to section off the area from pets or kids. Also, quote an extra $100 for 'unforeseen interruptions' in your contracts to cover these headaches.
