Man, been doing pest control for 15 years now and thought I had everything squared away with my retirement savings, but then last summer I get slapped with this liability claim from a commercial job gone wrong. Some warehouse in the Pacific Northwest where yeah the rain is real and it made the termite treatment a nightmare, mud tubes everywhere and the client swears their inventory got hit because of it. I had to shell out for a lawyer and it ate into my 401k contributions big time, now I'm scrambling to catch up. Saw a thread on r/pestcontrol about similar issues with old buildings here, and someone in Pest Control Professionals group mentioned how they lost a chunk of their nest egg to a bad bait station install. Roger Wakefield has a video on preventing these liability messes, but damn if it doesn't keep you up at night thinking about that payout. Anyone else dealing with how these claims screw your long-term plans?

set up an umbrella policy with a company like the hartford, it'll cover that liability crap without touching your 401k, i bumped mine to 2 million after a similar warehouse mess out west. saved my ass on a bait station claim last year, worth every penny.

get yourself a solid umbrella policy through something like the hartford or state farm, itll cover that termite claim liability without draining your retirement fund.

Insurance companies are the real termites, chewing through everything we build just to deny claims when it matters most. Had a buddy in the game for 20 years get hammered by a liability suit over some bullshit reapplication clause, and the insurer bailed faster than a homeowner spotting a bill. It's all rigged against us small guys, forcing us to jack up prices or go under.

insurance companies are straight up THIEVES, pocketing our premiums then bailing when a termite claim bites back with some bullshit exclusion clause. i dropped mine last year after they denied a $15k payout on a clear liability job, switched to a smaller outfit that actually covers pest control pros. now im paying less but sleeping better, though rates are climbing everywhere. fight me if you think sticking with the big boys is smart, theyll screw you every time.
