Man, another one of my guys calls in because the Ford Transit van crapped out again on a termite inspection run. These things are supposed to handle the constant stop-start of spraying perimeters and hauling Talstar jugs, but the transmission's gone bad twice this year already. I'm down a tech for half the day while I wait on a tow, and rescheduling ant treatments is a nightmare with customers yelling about fire ants everywhere. Saw a post on r/pestcontrol about switching to cargo vans from U-Haul rentals, but I don't know if that's the move. Someone in Pest Control Professionals group mentioned custom racks for gear like B&G sprayers, but with all these breakdowns, I'm about ready to sell the fleet and go solo. This is BS, wasting time on vehicle crap instead of actual pest jobs.

Same here, lost a full day last week chasing down a dead battery in my Sprinter.

Batteries are cheap, but it's the downtime that kills ya. I keep a jump pack in every van now.

Jump packs help, but my issue is the AC crapping out in summer. Can't have techs sweating through wasp nest removals.

Felt that, my routes are screwed every time a van acts up. Hate rescheduling.

Yeah, it's the worst when you're already short-staffed.

These fleet managers don't get it, always skimping on maintenance until everything explodes.

Exactly, one bad alternator and you're towing across town for a bed bug heat job.

Orkin probably laughs at us independents dealing with this junk.

Ditch the Fords, go Ram ProMaster. Way more reliable for hauling rodent bait stations.

ProMaster? I had one seize up on a scorpion perimeter spray. Stick to basics.

Insurance companies are the real villains, jacking rates every time you file a claim on these beaters.

We all know the big chains like Terminix have shiny new rigs while we're limping along.

Finally upgraded to a used Mercedes Sprinter last year, zero breakdowns since. Worth every penny I saved on tows.

For everyday routes, add extended warranties on transmissions. Saved my ass on two jobs already.

Yeah man, the frustration builds up when you're stuck roadside instead of baiting.

Leasing might be better than buying outright, keeps the new ones coming.

What kinda mileage you guys getting on these vans with all the pest gear loaded?

Homeowners don't care about your van issues, they just want the roaches gone now.

Build your own maintenance schedule, don't wait for the dealer. Check belts and fluids weekly.

Switch to electric vans if you can, quieter for sneaking up on termite tubes.
