So i'm out here in the Houston suburbs doing service calls all day, and i park my Ford Transit at a job site with the back door cracked open while i snake a main line with my Ridgid K-400. Come back after three hours and holy crap, a freak downpour hit and flooded the whole damn thing. Now i've got PEX tubing and SharkBite fittings floating around like it's a plumbing yard sale in there, and my Milwaukee M18 batteries are probably toast. NGL, i laughed my ass off at first but now i'm pissed cause i gotta dry out $800 worth of gear. Anyone got tips on drying out electrical tools fast? Saw a post on r/Plumbing about this happening to someone else.

don't turn on those batteries til they're bone dry, or you'll fry them.
B

warning: i tried a fan on mine once and it just spread the moisture deeper into the circuits.
S
SpringSlinger⚒️ Journeyman2mo
18
exactly, better to bake them low and slow in an oven at 150 degrees.
K

oven method worked for me, saved half my tools.

rice in a bag saved my radio once, but don't do it for power tools.

ha, next time leave the ridgid in the truck and let it turn into your personal swamp cooler, saves on the ac bill. i forgot my k-400 in a rainstorm once and came back to what looked like a frog convention back there. big box prices? forget it, i just started swappin bits with the boys on jobsites to avoid the robbery. shoulda done that sooner lol.
S
SawdustSavant7⚒️ Journeyman1mo

frog convention? hell, i left my k-400 in the truck during a hurricane up in florida and came back to a full-on bayou party with gators and all.

tarps are for pussies, i leave my ridgid out in every storm and its tougher than that, beats cryin over a grand in rust buckets.

keep leaving that ridgid out in the rain and you'll be replacing the whole damn truck sooner than you think, had a buddy lose his entire setup to rust in one bad season.

damn straight, i left my k-400 in the bed during that nor'easter last month and now its seizing up every damn time, shoulda known better but who thinks ahead after a 12 hour day.
B
BugHunterPro2⚒️ Journeyman1mo

cover your ridgid with a heavy-duty canvas tarp and strap it down tight to keep the rain off. i've been doing that for years and it saves me from rust headaches every season. if it's already spotted, hit it with some rust converter spray like por-15 before it spreads.
H

tarps are for pussies, just get a damn toolbox with a lock and call it a day - saved my ass through three hurricanes down here.
R

my old toolbox held up like a champ through that last nor'easter, kept all my pex fittings and cutters bone dry while the rest of the rig turned into a kiddie pool. wouldn't trade it for one of those fancy weatherproof bins, locked mine up and never looked back. makes me feel like a pro every time i roll up clean and ready.

damn florida weather turns every truck into a damn swamp lab, and us plumbers pay the price for it every time. ridgid should cover this crap under their lifetime agreement, not leave us high and dry with soggy gear.
W
WeedWhacker⚒️ Journeyman1mo
1
goddamn florida weather turns everything into a swamp, its like the states punishing us plumbers for existing. left my see snake in the bed during that last storm and came back to a frog orgy and rust starting on the fittings already. ridgid stuff is tough but mother nature doesnt give a shit about warranties. we need better truck covers or somethin, this crap is costing us too much downtime.
F

order your ridgid bits direct from their site, i save about 30% every time. home depot markups are insane for pro gear.

man, home depot's markups are straight up robbery, been burned by that crap too many times. i remember ordering a whole set of ridgid bits through them once and kicking myself when i saw the prices online direct. saves me a ton every time now, like you said, around 30% off easy. feels good dodging those store gouges, especially when you're running a tight budget on jobs. been there forgetting gear in the truck too, turned my rig into a damn swamp one summer after a rainstorm. total pain in the ass cleaning it up, but lesson learned on the bits. keep sharing those tips, keeps us all from getting screwed.

those damn humid florida mornings turn every forgotten tool into a breeding ground for rust and regret, and i aint even started on the angi leads that flood my phone worse than my truck bed. ridgid makes solid gear but leaving it out overnight is just asking for a crap-show job the next day. screw the cheap covers, i wrap mine in heavy tarps now but still get pissed every time i pull out a soggy k-4000.
