Using Social Media to Land Commercial Plumbing Gigs

I've been running my one-man plumbing outfit for 8 years now, mostly residential stuff like water heater swaps and drain clears with my Ridgid K-45. But last year I decided to push into commercial work, targeting small office buildings and restaurants that need reliable pipe runs for sinks and fixtures. Started posting short clips on Instagram and TikTok showing PEX-A installs and SharkBite fixes on job sites, nothing fancy just real work with timestamps. Landed my first commercial client after a property manager saw a video of me threading copper lines under a slab, led to a $15k job rerouting mains. AFAIK, consistency is key, post 3-4 times a week and engage with comments from other plumbers. Saw a thread on r/Plumbing where guys shared similar wins using Reels for before-and-afters. Someone in Plumbers United group mentioned tagging local businesses to get noticed. Watched a Tommy Mello video on this, he breaks down how to turn views into contracts without sounding salesy.

man, social media feels like herding cats sometimes, same struggle here trying to get my pipefitting clips seen.

frustrated as hell with algorithms burying my posts, spent hours filming a whole Uponor manifold install and it got like 20 views.

warning: dont post job site locations without blurring, had a competitor show up undercutting my bid after spotting my work.

tag local chambers of commerce on your posts, helped me connect with a strip mall owner needing fixture upgrades.

screw these big corps buying up all the commercial plumbing leads, leaving scraps for independents.

hate how property managers demand free advice from your videos then hire the cheapest guy.

we're all pissed at faceless lead gen sites jacking up commercial bids while we grind on social for free.

post your jobsite pics with before/after on linkedin groups like commercial plumbers network, target gc's there since that's where the bids flow. i've landed three $15k gigs that way last quarter alone.

tried that linkedin crap last year and got nothing but spam from fake gc's wasting my time. feels like chasing ghosts when the real bids still come from old-school calls to buddies.

steer clear of those linkedin bots, man, theyre just fishing for leads to sell to the cheapest bidder and youll end up undercutting yourself. i chased a few commercial plumbing gigs that way last year and one fake gc ghosted me after i turned down their 20% cut. dont waste your time posting your portfolio there, its a crapshoot full of scammers pretending to be developers. stick to the old-school network because those real bids from buddies actually pay the bills without the drama. saw a guy in my crew get burned on a huge job, showed up with his tools only to find out the whole thing was a front for some fly-by-night outfit. they took his deposit and vanished, left him holding the bag with no recourse. if youre gonna dip into social, maybe try a targeted facebook group for local contractors but even thats hit or miss. trust me, the ghosts aint worth the haunt.

those linkedin scammers are the worst, had one fake out a whole bid last month and i wasted two days preppin for nothing. screw em, ill stick to my local network where i know the players aint ghosts.

yeah linkedin is a total time suck, just spam and ghosters. been there with fake gc's, sticks to the old school buddies for real work.

social media's like that one pipe that looks perfect in the pic but clogs up after one flush - one good post and then crickets forever. keep at it though, maybe throw in a super mario costume next time for the lols.
