listen up, i manage a crew of five in central california, mostly ag and ranch work, and let me tell ya, nothing pisses me off more than bringing on some newbie who can't even sweat a joint without it leaking like a sieve. last month i had a guy botch a whole irrigation line repair on a dairy farm, using 3/4 inch type L copper but his torches were shit, some off-brand nobody's heard of, and he didn't flux the fittings proper. ended up with a callback that cost us two hours and a pissed-off client who almost canceled the next job. PSA: always test 'em on a PEX-A manifold install first or something simple like a SharkBite demo before they touch real pipes. saw a thread on r/Plumbing about this same crap, and someone in the Plumbers United group swore by running 'em through a Ridgid K-45 snake job to see if they got the basics. i've been doing this 10 years, and bad hires ruin your quoting accuracy every time. train hard or go home, fellas.

haha, test with sharkbites? that's like handing a toddler a loaded gun, but yeah, better than letting 'em near the torch.

don't get me started, fired a guy after he soldered a 1 inch line with lead-free but no nitrogen purge, whole house reeked of flux.

L

controversial take: sharkbites are fine for ag work, who cares if they leak in 10 years.
S

fuck these cheap labor pools, everyone's cutting corners and we're the ones paying with callbacks.
