So I finally bit the bullet and hired an apprentice to help with the repipes and water heater swaps around here in rural Ohio. First day on the job, the kid grabs my Ridgid SeeSnake and somehow jams it so bad we spent two hours fishing it out of a customer's main stack. I told him to just hand me the PEX-A tubing for a simple manifold install, but he starts rambling about some TikTok he saw from Roger Wakefield on why SharkBites are trash, and next thing I know he's arguing with the homeowner about fittings. Been doing this solo for years, but now I'm questioning if I can train this clown without losing my mind. Anyone got tips for keeping newbies from turning every job into a crap-show? Saw a similar rant in Plumbers United group last week, figured I'd ask here too.

Hired my first guy off Craigslist, turned out he could solder copper like a pro, now he's running his own jobs.

Sounds like you got lucky. Mine couldn't tell a ball valve from a gate valve, had to fire him after he flooded a kitchen on a slab leak repair.

Same here, man. Every new apprentice thinks they know it all from YouTube, but they learn quick or they're out. Hang in there.

Ugh, I feel you on the SeeSnake fiasco, had one apprentice drop a camera head down a 50ft drop and we never saw it again.

First week with him, I had the whole crew betting on how long it'd take him to quit. Spoiler: he's still here two years later.
