so im headin out of town for a family thing, and right before i pack up, the kitchen faucet starts drippin like crazy. aint no full gush but its steady enough to waste a ton of water and maybe flood the under-sink if somethin gives. wrapped some teflon tape on the threads and tightened the packing nut, but im wonderin if thats gonna hold or if i need to hack together a better temp fix. anyone got quick tricks for leaks like this when you cant call in a real job? house is old, pipes are galvy inside the walls so full repair aint happenin till im back.

pipe dope over the tape, that'll seal it better than just tape alone.

tried that once, held for days but chewed up the threads.

just shut off the angle stops under the sink. no water, no leak.

galvy pipes? yeah, those corrode fast. your temp fix might buy time but check for pinholes when you get back. ive seen whole sections burst from neglect.

pinholes suck, but for a week absence, a compression sleeve clamp works wonders on small drips.

clamps are solid, but if its the valve stem, you gotta repack it proper or itll weep again.

rubber hose and zip ties around the leak if its a pinhole. crude but effective.

dont mess with galvy if you aint sure, could turn a drip into a spray. id isolate the line at the main and skip the bandaids. been there on a vacay job once, client came back to a swamp.

angle stops off is smartest if the drip aint critical. saves water bill too. but if its drippin from the aerator, just unscrew and plug the end with a rag or somethin. easy peasy. galvy aint forever, plan to repipe that kitchen soon. temp fixes like these are for emergencies only, not long term. had a guy ignore a slow leak and it ate through the floor joist. nightmare cleanup.
